ROOF CLEANING

The process of roof cleaning has transformed over the years, in the past people would actually drag their little box store pressure washers onto the roof and blast away, this of course cleaned the algae from the shingles...it also cleaned the SHINGLE from the shingle.  If you take a look at the gutter after such a cleaning you'll find quite a large percentage of the granules have been dislodged.

Then there are the D.I.Y. products you find online and in the box stores, these products may show improvement but they are made to be handled by the consumer.  This forces manufacturers to cut the percentage of the active ingredients, which by the way are very dangerous in themselves.
This also leaves you the home owner at risk for a fall...from a roof or off a ladder.

There are " zinc strips " this will be a very quick over view, in my opinion this is the greatest waste of money in the roof cleaning industry, unless you only want the top 18 inches of your roof to stay clean.

OUR METHOD

The first step is to pre rinse all the vegetation around the property just in case there is any overspray, we try very hard to prevent this and it is rare but accidents happen and this helps safeguard against plant damage.  We then bag all downspouts to catch run off from the roof so it wont penetrate into the ground.

After the roof cleaning is complete we re rinse the vegetation, remove the bags and present you with a new looking roof.

We use a cleaning system that applies a rain soft chemical bath to you roof, no high pressure equipment blasting away at your shingles..in fact you won't here any equipment running at all.  As the chemical is applied you can watch, and right before your very eyes the stains will start to evaporate.

We stay on site to ensure we've treated all the stains and re apply where needed for a thorough clean.

Square footage is measured by the total of the exterior measurements.

WOOD SHINGLE ROOFS
Will be quoted individually onsite, this is a very in depth process that requires  several different applications to correctly restore and protect your wood roof.
We apologize for any past confusion, the prices below do not apply to wood roofs.

The prices below are for asphalt shingle roofs

 1000 to 1999 square feet $350.00

 2000 to 2499 square feet $400.00

 2500 to 2999 square feet $450.00

 3000 to 3499 square feet $500.00

 3500 to 3749 square feet $525.00

 3750 to 4000 Square feet $550.00

Add $75.00 for two story homes

Add $100.00 for three story homes

If any special lift equipment is required, the price will increase to match the cost of the equipment rental.

( We don't mark up equipment rental )

The stains and streaks are a form of algae named Gloeocapsa Magma.
This mold feeds on the organic matter commonly known as limestone. It will start to break down the composition of your shingles. The granules protecting your roof are loosened and will start to fall off. This will deteriorate your roof. Roof algae will reduce the life of your roof by about 3 to 4 years. This algae is very unsightly. The appearance of your house can affect your property value. Anyone selling a house should be concerned. There are three things this algae needs to thrive. Heat, moisture, and nutrients. The north side will start to show algae 1st do to moisture not dried by sun.

Gloeocapsa magma is blue-green algae, which is cyanobacteria, it is a type of algae. Algae are polyphyletic, and major algal groups are not all closely related to each other. Algae is NOT a taxonomic category, it is just a common name for all things photosynthetic that are NOT plants. Cyanobacteria are an ancient line of photosynthesizing bacteria, responsible for Oxygen gas in the atmosphere. It can be said that Cyanobacteria are responsible for all advanced forms (eukaryotic cells) of life on earth. It has gained notoriety in the Southeastern U.S. which is quickly spreading throughout the Midwest. The reason is this particular type of blue-green algae is responsible for creating the unattractive black roof stains and/or streaks commonly noticed by many. The blue-green algae, unicellular, accumulate over time; this accumulation begins to show the problematic black stains as the cyanobacteria develop their dark and hard UV-protective outer coating.

The primary reasoning behind the rapid spread and noticeabilty of this algae is:

1.Rising humidity and temperatures combined with more and more bacteria spores promotes their spread with these favorable conditions.
2.Fiberglass shingles (the most commonly seen amongst today's residential homes) have been being made with limestone as a filler (in the asphalt). These shingles hold moisture and organic "bacteria food" material longer (especially on the North-side in the Midwest) than the paper/asphalt/ceramic shingles of 20+ years ago. Additionally, these particular algae enjoy the limestone as a food source.
Once the blue-green algae have become noticeable, the stains will continue to worsen year to year. There is debate over the actual harmfulness of this particular blue-green algae to roofs, as there is little supportive scientific research. However, most "experts" within the subject area conclude the blue-green algae to be harmful, if left untreated, as the growth holds moisture within shingles causing premature aging, rotting, and/or granule loss.

Gloeocapsa magma is a species of cyanobacteria. Cyanobacteria are an ancient line of photosynthesizing bacteria, which photolyze water generating oxygen gas. Ancient cyanobacteria were ancestral to the chloroplasts of all plants on earth. Gloeocapsa magma has gained notoriety in the Southeastern U.S. which is quickly spreading throughout the Midwest. This particular type of cyanobacteria is responsible for creating unattractive black stains and/or streaks on roofs. The bacteria accumulate over time; this accumulation begins to show the black stains as the cyanobacteria develop their dark and hard UV-protective outer coating.

Note: Gloeocapsa magma may resemble "algae" in that they are green, but in fact cyanobacteria are bacteria whereas algae are single-celled eukaryotes (cells with nuclei) that are closely related to plants.
